Poonawatta Riesling Six Pack

Barossa - Eden Valley Riesling

Huon Hooke - Poonawatta The Eden Single Vineyard Riesling 2019, Eden Valley

Ranked: #2 of 35 2019 Riesling of Eden Valley March 2020

'This is a very fine Riesling to drink now but it also has plenty of potential. There’s a bewitchingly floral aroma with hints of gardenia. Intense, lingering and very dry with its savoriness augmented by a little tannin grip. Powerful and lasting as well as refined'. (Screwcap)

Vineyard: Estate grown across five acres in the heart of the Eden Valley wine region. Old vines established on own roots in thin rocky soils. The challenging environment maintains low yields, with tight bunches and concentrated fruit formation. Traditional hand management of the vineyard enables vines to capture individuality specific to site location.

Season: Exceptional quality was achieved from the 2019 vintage but extremely limited quantities produced; due to the lower than average rainfall recordings. Frost disrupted the first vine buds in spring and throughout flowering which again reduced overall wine grape supply. The dry ripening season through summer kept disease pressure to a minimum and cooler high country breezes allowed the grapes to ripen for a vintage of premium quality.

Wine making: Free run juice was captured and chill fermented with delicate lees stirring before a final filtration and bottling.

Appearance: Clear

Aroma/Bouquet: Pure lifted bouquet of citrus and crisp apple is generous.

Palate: Lemon zest and lime with hints of sage and mineral carry through to a dry, crisp finish.
