2019 Heirloom Vineyards Adelaide Hills Tempranillo

Adelaide Hills Tempranillo

Vineyard: Manicured old vines located in the Adelaide Hills region of Kuitpo forest. The vineyard is hand managed and monitored to continually produce high quality wine grapes.

Season: A challenging season to say the least with fruit production reduced by 20 to 50% due to a range of factors; wind effecting flowers, berry set and irregular rainfall. The spring growing season began well with good rains wetting the soil profile for a successful bud burst and positive sign of plenty of fruit bunches. The growing season was generally cool with a few extreme heatwaves to contend with in January-February. 2019 turned out to provide high quality wine grapes, with concentrated fruit in limited supply.

Wine making: Hand picked grape bunches were carefully sorted before 30% whole bunches were pressed and in open fermenters. This followed to a gentle basket press and transferred to seasoned French oak barriques for 9 months.

Appearance: Deep, dark purple red.

Aroma/Bouquet: A classic aromatic style of Tempranillo with notes of black cherry, pepper and violets. A hint of spearmint and graphite.

Palate: Plush fruit deliver a savory and mouth-watering wine. Balanced acid and tannin glide across your palate with striking flavours of ripe plum, sweet red and blackberry fruits. A sensational tasting experience with very long length.....take your time.

Food Pairing: Chinese spiced quail, slow cooked meat over wood fire coals, Moroccan chickpea curry. We recommend to decant this wine 2-3 hours beforehand.
