2018 Heirloom Vineyards Coonawarra Cabernet

Coonawarra Cabernet

Vineyard: The vineyard is hand managed and monitored to source the best quality the vineyard can deliver.

Season: A superb season recorded with good winter rains recharging water sources for an ideal start to the growing season. An unexpected 'black' frost occurred late spring, which disappointingly reduced overall fruit production. A warm December and growing season resulted in wine grapes of deep concentration and exceptional Cabernet fruit; a region famous for delivering outstanding Cabernet.

Wine making: Hand tendered vines were sorted bunch by bunch into open fermenters before a gentle basket press transferred the juice to 30% new American oak barriques.

Appearance: Bright and deep dark purple.

Aroma/Bouquet: Intense cassis floats across fresh herbs before spicy notes of cedar and ground nutmeg appear. Earthy and concentrated sweet, dark red berries.

Palate: A seamless and silky palate structure of concentrate blackberries, with hints of blue fruits, tobacco leaf and charred red peppers. Fine tannin and a delightful finish. Further cellaring will reward those who have the patience.

Food Pairing: A versatile wine for many cuisines. Smoked Italian sausage and bean stew, Argentinean beef barbecued on the bone.
