Vineyard: Established on a single vineyard estate (Avon Brae) in the High Eden region of the Barossa. Hand managed to meticulous detail with attention required with the dense grown vine canopy; allowing airflow, extra light and shading where needed to ripen the Gruner Veltliner grapes.
Season: In stark contrast to the previous year, the 2017 growing season followed a long wet winter that replenished soil water profiles with a wet and windy September. A mild summer included regular rainfall events ensuring a long, cool ripening. Bunch weights were increased leading to high yield levels. Harvest date March.
Wine making: Machine picked wine grapes were picked in the cool of the evening to maintain the delicate nature and aromatics with the Gruner grapes. Natural wild yeasts and some time on skins with lees stiring before a final gentle pressing and bottled.
Appearance: Clear to pale straw
Aroma/Bouquet: Honey dew and melon notes alongside lychee and fresh summer stone fruits of the season.
Palate: Crunchy passion fruit over grapefruit and lingering spice meander around the palate of this luscious wine variety. Soft integrated acidity with melon fruits add depth and texture with a light to medium finish.
Food Pairing: Spicy Asian cuisine, king fish ceviche with fresh red chilli, oyster cream stew or fresh cooked prawns and lashings of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
